Soil Phosphorus Exchange as Affected by Drying-Rewetting of Three Soils From a Hawaiian Climatic Gradient

چکیده

Current understanding of phosphorus (P) dynamics is mostly based on experiments carried out under steady-state conditions. However, drying-rewetting an inherent feature soil behavior, and as such also impacts P cycling. While several studies have looked at net changes in pool sizes with drying-rewetting, few dynamically tracked exchange using isotopes, which would give insights mean residence times a given pool, thus availability. Here, we subjected three soils from climatic gradient the Kohala peninsula Hawaii to 5-month treatments. The hypotheses were that physico-chemical biotic processes be differently affected by repeated cycles, response depend history soils. Soils labeled 33 18 O enriched water. At select time intervals, sequential extraction measured concentration, recovery (only first 3 months), incorporation water into phosphate. This allowed tracing sequentially extracted pools well phosphate, are driven biological processes. Results showed concentration predominantly type. across all observed faster dilution resin-P less mobile inorganic drying-rewetting. On other hand, phosphate governed treatment. The Resilience of Microbial Community under Drying and Rewetting Cycles of Three Forest Soils

Forest soil ecosystems are associated with large pools and fluxes of carbon (C) and nitrogen (N), which could be strongly affected by variation in rainfall events under current climate change. Understanding how dry and wet cycle events might influence the metabolic state of indigenous soil microbes is crucial for predicting forest soil responses to environmental change. We used 454 pyrosequenci...

Colloidal and dissolved phosphorus in sandy soils as affected by phosphorus saturation.

Fertilization exceeding crop requirements causes an accumulation of phosphorus (P) in soils, which might increase concentrations of dissolved and colloidal P in drainage. We sampled soils classified as Typic Haplorthods from four fertilization experiments to test (i) whether increasing degrees of phosphorus saturation (DPS) increase concentrations of dissolved and colloidal P, and (ii) if criti...

Extractable Phosphorus as Affected by Humic Acid Application in Salt Affected Soils

To use of organic fertilizer sources for increasing crops production on sustainable basis has become imperative because the cost of chemical fertilizers is high. An experiment was conducted during 2006 on two saltaffected soils of District Charsadda to evaluate the effect of different levels of single super phosphate (SSP) alone and in combination with humic acid (HA) on phosphorus availability...
